AIAIAI teamed up with London-based sound artist Yuri Suzuki for their ‘Make The City Sound Better‘ campaign to coincide with the release of their latest headphones, the Capital. Striving to “break new sonic territory,” they developed an ambitious project called the ‘Sound Taxi.’ The London cab was equipped with microphones to record the surrounding noise as it made its way through the city streets.

A specially-designed software program inside the vehicle converted the noise into unique music in real-time, and it was played over 67 speakers built into the car. Passengers could also tune-in to the converted sounds via headphones installed inside.

The taxi sounded different on each journey, as the various frequencies were translated into melodies in different areas of the city and depended on factors such as traffic and ambient sounds. The different noises converted into music during a particular trip from A to B were uploaded to Soundcloud and featured on the campaign’s microsite.
